OUR BEGINNING

What does a New Yorker ad lead to?

In 1947, Rudy and Nancy Talbot placed a single ad. Three thousand fliers later, a catalog with a cult following was born — and a red front door in Hingham, Massachusetts, became an invitation.

HOW WE WORK

The feel of a red door and the weight of good cloth

From the first catalog mailed in 1947 to the store you walk into today, certain things haven't changed. The way we choose a fabric. The way we greet you. The way we think about what lasts.

01

Discovery as a practice

Not a trend cycle — a genuine curiosity. We find pieces that feel both fresh and familiar, from a new collar detail to an unexpected color in a classic cut.

02

Gracious service, quietly given

Help when you ask for it. Space when you don't. The kind of attention that makes you feel at home without feeling watched.

03

Quality you can feel

A seam that lies flat. A button that stays on. A garment that looks as good after fifty wears as it did on the first.

04

Surprise and delight

A handwritten note in your package. A preview of something new. The small gestures that make shopping feel like a conversation, not a transaction.

05

Hospitality, not just service

Somewhere to sit. Something interesting to look at. A place that feels less like a store and more like a friend's house with very good taste.

WHAT CUSTOMERS SAY

The Hingham spirit doesn't travel alone

I discovered Talbot at a time when I felt like fashion had lost its way. My first purchase was a classic navy blazer, and I've been coming back ever since. Always timeless, always a surprise.

What keeps me coming back is how easy it is to find something that feels like it was made for me. The quality speaks for itself. My closet is a testament to their consistency.

Susan Taylor

Talbots customer for 15 years

Susan Taylor

The first time I walked into a Talbot store, someone helped me find a dress for a wedding that I'd never have picked out on my own. It was perfect. That kind of gracious service is rare.

Caroline Diaz

Newer customer, loyal from the start

Caroline Diaz

I love that I can buy a piece today and know it will still look good five years from now. It's fashion without the noise. The catalog was magic, and the store still has that feeling.
